The £7m portrait that destroyed John Ruskin's marriage returns to Oxford

The Ruskins’ marriage had been annulled on the grounds that it had not been consummated, because he a] didn't like women in general, b] didn't want to try sex or c] didn't like his wife.

Millais was a hero. He married Effie, saved her from a nightmare and brought her great joy. So I don't think that portrait destroyed John Ruskin' marriage. I think Ruskin did his own destroying.

I'm not so sure about Effie as you seem to be; Ruskin was a genius but like many such, odd.
