James Campbell - The Wife's Remonstrance


James Campbell was a member of the Liverpool Academy and his genre paintings have an obvious Pre Raphaelite influence. Here the father is a poacher and he brilliantly conveys the reproachful child and mother. Ruskin liked its colouring but seemed to think the subject 'rather ugly'.
